Sheffield for Democracy is an informal group set up by local campaigners, many of whom were involved in the “Yes” Campaign in the May 2011 referendum. It is linked to national organisations such as the Electoral Reform Society and Unlock Democracy. These campaign for greater democracy, an informed populace, citizens rights, a fairer voting system and more accurate representation of the public will in Parliament.
We are an apolitical group welcoming supporters of all political parties or none. Sheffield for Democracy seeks to engage and encourage greater participation of the public in democracy at a local level in Sheffield and also to encourage young people to become more interested in politics by making them aware of how relevant it is to their lives. We hold regular Steering Group meetings where we set out our aims and plan our activities for the group. All members of the group are welcome to attend and contribute to the discussion.
